Cherry Blossoms

Hello! I am happy you found me. My name is Jennifer Duggins. I am a Licensed Physical Therapist and Owner of COREssentials Physical Therapy and Pelvic Wellness, PLLC. I am a native Texan, born in San Antonio, grew up in North Texas, but hurried back to San Antonio in June 2014.

I graduated from The University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio in May 1994. I received my Physical Therapy license from the state of Texas in Sept. 1994 and have been practicing in a variety of settings over those 25+ years. I have extensive experience in young adult, adult and geriatric rehab and physical therapy for orthopedic, neurological, general medical, trauma, complex medical, and post-surgical conditions. In 2002, I began studying and receiving training in the management of female urinary incontinence. Over the next 15+ years, I became passionate about furthering my clinical training and practice to include the management of fecal incontinence, bowel dysfunction, pregnancy and postpartum rehab and pelvic pain conditions for both female and male patients in addition to continuing my practice in "traditional" physical therapy.

In opening COREssentials Physical Therapy Clinic and Pelvic Wellness, PLLC, I set out to have a place where I can spend the time with my patients and clients that they truly need, a place where I can listen and examine the whole you, a place where we can work together to develop a treatment plan that meets your goals in your time frame in as few or as many sessions as we deem appropriate, a place where it is realized that we are all unique and often "by the book" has to include "reading between the lines."

While I am a bit of a perfectionist by personality, I am a realist in that I understand I cannot make every "body" 100% better. Physical Therapy is most successful with a patient/client/therapist team approach. I am a big believer in empowering the client with knowledge to manage their condition and prevent recurrence. Some of my most complex patients have improved in 1-2 visits merely because they were armed with knowledge about their condition that they did not have before. That level of education in conjunction with treatment requires one on one time with the same clinician visit to visit. COREssentials Physical Therapy and Pelvic Wellness, PLLC allows me to offer that level of care and service to my clients.

It is not a secret that during pregnancy and in the postpartum period, a woman's body goes through significant change affecting her emotionally and physically. Hormonal changes contribute to increased mobility of the joints of the pelvis and can create instability resulting in musculoskeletal pain in the back, hips, pelvis, and other joints. As a woman's shape changes, so does the way she moves. These changes in movement patterns can create muscle imbalances which can also lead to pain and weakness. The change in pelvic support along with the growing uterus can lead to bowel and bladder dysfunction both during pregnancy and in the postnatal period.

COREssentials Physical Therapy and Pelvic Wellness can help with the following:

  • Pregnancy related back or other joint or muscle pains

  • Identification of abnormal movement patterns

  • Urinary or fecal incontinence

  • Constipation

  • Diastasis Recti prevention and treatment

  • Carpal Tunnel symptoms

  • TMJ pain

  • Pelvic Pain

  • Painful Intercourse

  • Pelvic muscle and core weakness

  • Pain from episiotomy or vaginal tearing

  • Cesarean Section recovery

A Pelvic Health Physical Therapist is one who has chosen to undergo additional training in order to specialize in treating various dysfunctions of or within the pelvic region.

Pelvic Health Disorders do not just affect women, however it is still commonly referred to as a "women's health" issue. Many of these topics are difficult for some individuals to discuss, and the numbers of both women and men affected by disorders of pelvic health are staggering and growing annually. There is no need to silently suffer from problems "down there."

COREssentials Physical Therapy treats both male and female pelvic health dysfunction and can provide care for the following:

  • Urinary Incontinence, Urgency, Frequency, and Hesitancy

  • Bowel/Fecal Incontinence

  • Constipation
